Galia Hirsch

Galia Hirsch is an Associate Professor at the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Bar-Ilan University (Israel). She has conducted her Post-doctoral research at the Smart Institute of Communication and the Department of Communication and Journalism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her PhD thesis, which she studied at the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Bar-Ilan University, explored the differences between irony and humour. This was performed by making a comparative pragmatic analysis of literary texts in Hebrew, Spanish, and English, mainly researching differences in the use of explicitation strategies in translation. At present, her research interests include: a comparative pragmatic analysis of literary and multimodal texts in Hebrew, Spanish, and English, and its implications for translation; explicitation strategies; differences between irony and humour; humour and irony in the new media.
