Esther Linares Bernabéu

Esther Linares Bernabéu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Valencia. Previously, she has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the ICS (Instituto de Cultura y Sociedad) at the University of Navarra, and was a predoctoral researcher at the Department of Spanish Philology, General Linguistics and Literary Theory at the University of Alicante. She has also participated in several research stays at the Open University (UK) and the University of Bologna (Italy). She specialises in the fields of pragmatics, sociolinguistics and gender studies. In particular, she focuses on the analysis of verbal humour, the discursive construction of identity, mediation and conflict resolution in digital contexts and everyday interaction. She is currently part of two research projects; InMedio (ICS/2020/09) and “El humor interaccional en español. Géneros orales, escritos y tecnológicos” (HUMORACTION) PID2019-107265GB-I00 (MICIN, AEI). Outstanding among her publications are the book El monólogo humorístico subversivo en español: pragmática, humor verbal y construcción discursiva del género (Madrid/Frankfurt, Iberoamericana Vervuert, 2021) and the edition of the volume Gender and Identity in Humorous Discourse (Frankfurt, Peter Lang, 2021).
