Esther Linares Bernabéu


Esther Linares Bernabéu (Universidad de Navarra)

Esther Linares Bernabéu, research fellow at the University of Navarra. She holds a PhD in Linguistic Studies. She has been a predoctoral researcher in the GRIALE project entitled PROMETEO 2016/052 “Humor de género: observatorio de la identidad de mujeres y hombres a través del humor” (Gender humour: observatory for male and female identity by means of humour (Valencian Regional Government, 2016-19). Her main research interests are in the field of pragmatics, sociolinguistics and gender studies. In particular, she focuses on verbal humour, the discursive construction of identity, mediation and dispute resolution in digital and everyday contexts. Some of her most noteworthy publications are “El estilo de habla en el discurso directo como estrategia para la construcción del género en el monólogo humorístico”. (“Speech style in direct discourse as a strategy for constructing gender in humorous stand-up acts”) Revista Signos Estudios de Lingüística, 53(102) (2020); and “Subversive humour in Spanish stand-up comedy. Humor”, 33(1) (2020) (in collaboration with Leonor Ruiz Gurillo). Likewise, she has made some outstanding contributions in such prestigious journals as ELUA, Normas or Sociocultural Pragmatics.
