Ruth María Lavale Ortiz is associate professor of Spanish Language at the Department of Spanish Philology, General Linguistics and Theory of Literature at the University of Alicante. Her research has mainly focused on studying the verb in Spanish, and has covered the syntactic and semantic aspects of this. For her doctoral thesis, she studied Current denominative causative verbs in Spanish. She is a member of the GRIALE and LEXIS (Lexis and syntax) research groups. As for irony, she participated in the GRIALE group publication. ¿Estás de broma? 20 actividades para practicar la ironía en clase de ELE /You must be joking!”20 activities for practicing irony in the Spanish as a Foreign Language Class (Madrid, Edinumen, 2011).
