Chelo Vargas Sierra

Chelo Vargas Sierra, PhD in Translation and Interpreting (English) and winner of the Extraordinary Doctorate Award, is an Associate Professor at the Department of English Philology at the University of Alicante and a founding member of IULMA (Instituto Interuniversitario de Lenguas Modernas y Aplicadas), of which she is currently the director. She has been editor of RAEI (Revista Alicantina de Estudios Ingleses, 21); of Terminology, with Teresa Cabré and Rosa Estopà (John Benjamins, 18); Procedia. Social and Behavioral Sciences (95) and the monographic TIC, trabajo colaborativo e interacción en Terminología y Traducción (Granada, Editorial Comares), among others. Vargas Sierra’s research career is especially characterised by its interdisciplinary nature and is structured around 3 core topics; a) terminology applied to translation, b) corpus linguistics and specialised languages, and c) translation technologies, which she has published several works and presentations on at conferences. In addition, she is currently involved in the project “Etiquetaje pragmático para un observatorio de la identidad de mujeres y hombres a través del humor. La plataforma OBSERVAHUMOR.COM” (OBSERVAHUMOR.COM) PROMETEO/2021/079, from the GRIALE research group.
