Neal Norrick

Neal R. Norrick was head of English Philology at the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken (Germany) until September 2013. Previously, he was head of Linguistics and Director of the English Department at the University of North Illinois. His research focuses on linguistics, from studying conversation, narrative and he takes a pragmatic approach. In recent years, he has focused his research on oral language, with a special emphasis on colloquial language and verbal humour. Norrick was co-director of the Journal of Pragmatics and was part of the scientific committee for the International Pragmatics Association (IPrA). Moreover, he also participated as a member of the editorial team in a range of journals such as: Text & Talk; Humor: International Journal of Humor Research; International Review of Pragmatics; Discourse Processes; Lodz Papers in Pragmatics; and Journal of Language Aggression and Conflict.
